Employees When You Close: Notice, Severance and Final Pay

Employees are often the hardest part of a closing.

Before you tell anyone

  • List every employee with start date, pay and benefits.
  • Check your province's notice and severance rules with your lawyer.
  • Prepare final pay and vacation pay calculations.

After

  • Issue Records of Employment on time.
  • Issue final T4s through your payroll provider or accountant.

Handle the conversations respectfully and in person where you can.
